Time change

Weird thing happened today. Nelson and I went out at '1.30pm' today. 1.30pm! However, my mobile was showing 12.30pm. So I questioned Nelson whether is his time correct. He then checked his mobile and watch. Both were showing 1.30pm. So I presumed Nelson's time was correct and didn't bother to find out what's wrong with my time.

While we were shopping in the city, Nelson received a call from Alan.

Alan: "Hi. Where are you? What's the time now?"
Nelson: "I am in the city and it's 4.30pm now. Why?"
Alan: "4.30pm your head. Are you dreaming? It's only 3.30pm now la!"

Nelson was puzzled. So were I. And soon Alan reviewed that the time in Ireland has been adjusted an hour earlier today in view of the seasonal change.

I never knew time is adjusted in this part of the world for this reason.

Anyway, we had an 'extra' hour to shop! Hurray! hehe...

Now, I knew why my mobile's time contradicted with Nelson's, because my mobile has an automatic time update function, which I have activated.

All kind of weird things happen when you are in the other part of the world.

I was having a lazy weekend, having nothing to do, and suddenly I feel like baking! So I did at around 8pm just now! Fresh from oven, Butter Cookies!

I'm going to have my cookies now. Tomorrow is a public holiday here. I still have one more day to spend. Bye!

Saturday, October 27

It's Saturday!

I woke up at 8am. You know, when you're waking early from Mon through Fri, your biological body alarm clock would automatically wakes you up at that time too.

I made breakfast. I have started having breakfast since I came to Dublin =)

I made this...erm..don't know what it's called. I saw it from this blog. The moment I saw it I knew I'd love this. Haha! Coincidentally, I saw nutella on sale - 2 for €3.50! Of course buy la =D

Went to the city after breakfast. We have to buy some household necessities for our new room as well as a rice cooker! Ya...Rice Cooker, can you believe it? All this while I cook rice without using rice cooker. Haha...

As usual, when we take our lunch outside, we would either dine at Mandarin House Restaurant or Harry Ramsden's for fish and chips. We love the fish and chips!

The skin is so crispy and the meat is so juicy. It comes at a very big portion for only €9.90. We always order one meal because I definitely cant finish it. I usually manage to swallow 1/3 of the portion. You don't believe it? I can tell you the fish itself weights 300g, as it is shown on the menu. That is a very big fish fillet and the chips...hell lots, ok!

After shopping, we went to Alan's place. He invited us to join them for dinner =D

The menu - Spicy Crabs, Curry Chicken and mixed vegetables.

I'm damn jeolous at Ke Xin because she has a "can cook" husband. Alan always prepares the dinner. Alright, my husband is not bad, he offers to cook as well. However, I'm even more frighten if he offers..because he will only cook Spaghetti Carbonara. Nothing else but Carbonara. Sigh.

We had a scrumptious dinner overall. Thanks to Alan. We chatted till late night, gossiped and bitched about our working lifestyle at M'sia. It's just too hard to save money, go for holidays or even to buy a house when you are one of the typical young middle-class working professionals. Basically, the rich would get richer, the poor would become poorer. The financial gap just keeps on increasing. Sad thing.

Alan and Lye, both of them generally dont like the sosio-politic scenes in M'sia. Well, what can we do? They don't plan to go back to M'sia in future. No doubt, lifestyle here is way better than M'sia's. Somehow, it is still too early for us to decide where to settle down. M'sia, a place where we are from, has got lots of memories for us. Most importantly, our parents are there! We miss them!

My honest Daddy

After working for about 2weeks, I've got my 1st salary in Ireland. Haha...and my hubby keeps on nagging me to treat him a meal. However, I am thinking to watch a movie instead.

By the way, I have to say I love my manager. Haha, she always let me go home at 3.30pm whenever I'm out to audit. I got back home at 4pm these few days.

I still have plenty of time to cook dinner. Or else I'll end up eating fish n chips, fried chicken or some stupid sandwich that Irish always eat.

Claypot chicken rice without claypot - my dinner last night..haha! Don't laugh...there is a blogger cooking it this way. I follow her RECIPE.

Tonight, I'm having ginger chicken soup - taught by my mom long long time ago.

Oh...back to my topic, my honest Daddy!

2days ago, my mom found a gold ring which fell from the sky. Alright, I joke! But that is how my sister told me. What happened was my mom accidentally saw a gold ring from a garden nearby my house in Subang and she then took it back home.

Yesterday, as usual, my dad went jogging at the garden nearby. After a few rounds, he sat down by the bench at the garden to have some rest. Oh..he was not resting, he actually took the ring found by mom and hoping the owner of the ring would come searching for it! When I heard it from my sister, I was like " W.H.A.T!!!" Seriously, I think the ring owner wouldn't be so smart to return to the garden to search for it.

Lo and behold, there were 2 'suspicous' person wandering around the garden, seemed to be looking for something. My dad, presuming that they are the persons he is waiting for, then approached them and ask tactfully what are they looking for? A gold ring! My dad then happily return the ring to the rightful owners.

I laugh like hell and I can imagine my mom's reaction when she knows about it. Almost surely, I think she's going to scold him..haha. No wonder my mom always say my dad is the most honest person in the world. He really is!

Updates

Monday 15-Oct-2007
First day of work. One of my colleauges who is from S'pore was also starting his first working day with me. Nelson came to pick me after work. It took us around an hour to reach home which usually takes about 15mins only. The traffic at city centre is so jam during rush hours.

Tuesday 16-Oct-2007

Went to client's office. My manager actually booked a cab for me. So nice! What surprised me was that she then booked a cab for me to go home at 3.30pm. I reached home at 3.45pm. Oh..lovely!

Wednesday 17-Oct-2007

Again..audit at client's office. Reached home at 3.45pm. Cook. Eat. Sleep at around 11pm =)

Thursday 18-Oct-2007

Reached home at 3.45pm again! Cook. Then headed to city centre to meet my hubby. We went to view a 2-bedroom apartment. The room is lovely. Currently, there is a couple from Hungary staying there. For a price of €550 per month, that room is definitely worth more than that.

Somehow, my hubby prefer another room that costs us €700 per month. Both of the rooms are more or less the same. Basically, my hubby prefers the more expensive one because that room is slightly larger and the apartment is only occupied by a German gal. He claimed that it is more comfortable but I prefer the cheaper one.

My point is...Isnt it better if we got to save €150 per month to spent on some other things?

Friday 19-Oct-2007

Received a call from the room that costs €550 per month. She decided to let the room to other people.
I was like -_-"
Wasted my time to explain and list out the adavantages to my hubby if we were to stay there.
Property in Dublin is so expensive, unbelievably expensive! For instance, the three bedroom house that I'm staying now worths more than half a million euro. Crazy!

Saturday 20-Oct-2007

Woke up at 8.30am. Prepared breakfast.

Dim Sum and Red Bean Soup

No. I didnt make the dim sum. I bought it from some chinese food store but I made the red bean soup (红豆沙). Then, I soaked myself in the bathtub for an hour reading some travel magazine. Feel so great ^_^
After that, I prepared to pack things as I'm moving out tomorrow.

Overloaded luggage!

As for my hubby? He just laid there and watched some boring snooker competition.

Joke of the day

Nelson: One of my colleagues asked just now, how to pronounce "NO" in mandarin...
so I told him it's "BU" or "BU SHI"

then he responded, "Oh man, that sounds like PUSSY. better don't say it."

haha...

Start Working =)

I've just got my work permit. Hurray!

which means...

I'm changing my occupation from

Nelson's personal chef to an office lady =)

Interesting Things in Dublin

Ever since I came to Ireland, I knew I'm gonna see and experience foreign way of life and culture.

*Us in the bus*

First of all, the cityscape is very different from Malaysia's. No highrise condominium nor highrise apartment. Most of their office and apartment buildings are only a few storeys high and the streets tend to be dotted with houses older than my great grandparents.

*The Milenium Spire*

The Millenium Spire, as it's named, is a contemporary monument replacing the Nelson's Pillar monument. However, it came 3 years too late: construction only completed in 2003. Hehe...

No bangla, indonesian, philipines in the streets (got la..little bit la) but all caucasian.

*Avril Lavenge*
Secondly, I saw lots of "Avril lavenge" or "Pink" in the street. I guess they cant live without eye liner. They have piercing and tattoo all over their body. Oh..and their hair colour..whatever colour u can think of..pink, purple, blue, green..etc. Don't be shock when u see a redhead waitress, or a receptionist with piercing at her lip, her nose, her eyebrow and tatto on her neck. I'm doubtful if similar outlooks would ever get a job in M'sia! hm... probably yes, job description: unemployed.

Thirdly, in fact I really respect the street entertainers here in Dublin. At least they know how to use their so-called talent to make their income, instead of sheer begging or stealing or robbing.

An street entertainer, he is trying so hard to impersonate the James Joyce statue nearby. Are you able to guess which is human?

A beggar. Oops... An artist painting on the paveway and hoping a couple of Euro in return from appreciative passer-bys.

Harp player by a busy downtown street, never got a chance to witness this in KL.

Golden Angel! She is a human... If you are generous enough to throw some money into her box, she would become alive waving her magic wand above your head and, "may your wish come true!"

I guess she's performing some sort of traditional dance. Anyhow, all I know is the guys there are only admiring her protruded nipples. hoho... A guy even shouted, "strip! strip!"

I think as long as you are daring, you could earn a living here, at least as a street entertainer. Hehe...

*The Bad Ass Cafe*

Fourth, weird name!

Why in the world does the owner name his/her cafe "The Bad Ass Cafe!" I'm curious. Are they "selling ass?" Or even worst, BAD ass! Let me guess, maybe they have "Ass of the day" in the menu. haha...

*Gay and Lesbian section in bookstore*

Fitfh, they even have a Gay and Lesbian section in the bookstore. Cool!

Now, do u have cultural shock yet? No right..me neither! I expect to see more bizzare and strange things in years to come.

However I'm really shock with this...

The prettiest I ever saw...

*The prettiest ever Stewardess I saw in Irish airline, Aer Lingus*
